Tell Your Story with Pictures
by Jeffrey SoRelle

If you are looking for some cool photography software, I have just the ticket for you. Microsoft released Photo Story 3 for Windows XP in the latter part of 2005. Photo Story 3 has received excellent reviews. As always, I encourage you to take it for a spin and see what you think. Here are some ideas in which this application could be used: 4H and Interpretative events, educational programs, attachments to emails, and as part of your TECO website for a photo album type object. For installation tips, please visit the EIT Tech Ops blog at http://tinyurl.com/cp6ee . (URL created by TinyURL - see page 3!)

Check out the example of PhotoStory 3 being used on the TECO demo website at http://county-co.tamu.edu . Look under Publication - Great Event Photos - Cross Plains Fire Jan 2006 or use the cross link on the Home page.

For 2 other examples:

Sutton County's website at http://sutton-tx.tamu.edu . (Click on “Sutton County Year in Review” in the Hot Link section)
Pecos County website at http://pecos-tx.tamu.edu . (Click on the Pecos County Video)

Couple of things to keep in mind when using Photo Story 3 with TECO:

You can only upload projects in the Newsletter and Publication sections; however, you could cross link them to the Home-Hot Link, Events, or Links sections. Keep file size in mind when you upload a project - the larger the file, the longer it will take to load for clientele Try to keep your photo sizes small (e.g. 640x480 or 800x600)

Read more about how to use Photo Story 3 at http://tinyurl.com/chkac .

To avoid copyright issues, I suggest you use only original audio you have created and photos you have taken. A CD you purchased is not licensed for use on a website no matter how short the clip used is.

Enjoy using Photo Story 3… it’s a SNAP!

Dreamweaver Tips - by Diann Mitchell

Checking for Sitewide Broken Links using Dreamweaver

  1. From Dreamweaver’s main menu, choose Site - Site Map. A site navigation window will open on the right.
  2. In the tab menu, choose Site, Choose Links Sitewide.
  3. Dreamweaver will search through all the links in the site and will summarize the results.
    1. A box will open on the bottom. Select the Show, tab pull-down menu. This will give three options:
      1. Broken Links - will list all broken links to files that are not found in your defined site
      2. External Links - shows links that go off of your site but will not indicate if they are broken or not
      3. Orphaned Files - shows files that are in your site but are not linked to in any way
Change Link Sitewide

This allows you to enter a recurring link in the site and have Dreamweaver replace it with a new link.

  1. In Site Map, choose Change Link Sitewide from the Site menu.
  2. The Change Link Sitewide (Site - <your site name>) box appears.
  3. After Change All Links To, enter the link that you would like changed or browse to it by clicking the folder icon.
  4. After Into Links To, enter the link you would like to replace the old link or browse to it by clicking the folder icon.
  5. 5.
    Click OK.

Shortcut: Ctrl+Enter submitted by Sue Gordon

No matter what web browser you find yourself using these days, typing URLs in the
address bar remains the same daunting task: first the www and last, the .com.

Instead, just type the body of the domain name (i.e. CNN), hold the Ctrl key and
tap Enter to send your browser speeding over to www.cnn.com . (Figure 1) +

Watch in amazement as the “www” and “.com” are automatically added to the body of the domain name.

Keep in mind this will work only for sites with “.com” in the URL. This shortcut does not work on URL’s including “.net”, “.org”, etc. in the domain name.

Shortcut: Resizing a Window submitted by Sue Gordon

If you are in a window that is not fully sized, you can maximize the window by double-clicking anywhere on the title bar (the colored area to the left of your “minimize” and “maximize” buttons), and the window will open to full screen (Figure 2). Double-click again, and it will return to the size it was.

I just tried it in GroupWise as well as my internet browser, and it works in both. Cool!

TinyURL.com submitted by Jill Hughson

Are you sick of posting URLs in emails only to have it break when sent causing the recipient to have to cut and paste it back together? TinyURL was created as a free service to make posting long URLs easier. You can create a tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires. Visit http://tinyurl.com/ for more information!
